Judy McGrath, CEO of MTV, is stepping down
CEO Judy McGrath of MTV has announced that she will be stepping down from the company. McGrath is credited with being an integral part of the efforts that made MTV the pop culture icon that it has become, having started there as a copywriter and grew her career with the company over the last thirty years.
President and CEO, Philippe Dauman, of Viacom Inc., the owner of MTV, released a statement that said that McGrath is heading on “at the very top of the game with a legacy of success that stretches from the earliest days of cable television”.
McGrath, 58, has been the chairperson and CEO of MTV Networks since she was named for the positions in 2004. Though the network had been sliding, she managed to turn it around for a powerful resurgence with its highly popular shows such as “16 and Pregnant” and “Jersey Shore”.
This allowed MTV to enjoy a strong recovery even as their audience turned their attention toward the internet and their smartphones for their entertainment and to play the latest music videos.
