Bryan Stow to be removed from medically induced coma
The doctors of Bryan Stow, a paramedic and San Francisco Giants fan who was badly beaten during the home opener at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, intend to remove his medically induced coma. He is also scheduled to undergo further surgery in order to reduce the fluid levels within his brain, which had been damaged during the assault.
Stow’s family noted on their blog that “His brain is collecting fluid so a shunt needs to be put in the cranium at the center of the brain and it will be snaked down through his stomach to drain,” explaining that “The abdomen will hopefully absorb the fluid.”
The coma will be removed by decreasing the medication that is causing him to remain comatose. It is the hope of the doctors that this action will not lead the patient to experience further seizures.
According to police, there were three victims attacked at the same time by the two men who punched, kicked, and shouted expletives at the individuals. During the attack, Stow fell to the ground and struck his head.
