Apple takes Google’s top position in brand value at $153 billion
Apple Inc. has now overtaken Google Inc. for the position of the most valuable brand in the world. A WPP Plc report said that the maker of the popular iPod, iPad, iPhone, and iMac devices climbed beyond the top search engine with a value of $153.3 billion, which is up 84 percent from 2010. On the other hand, Google reached $111.5 billion after falling by 2 percent within the same time period. This ends Google’s four year reign over the brand rankings.
Similarly, International Business Machines Corp (IBM) surpassed McDonald’s Corp and took the third place position.
The successes of the Apple brand are credited to the latest versions of the iMac and iPhone, as well as the introduction of the iPad. They almost doubled the most recent quarter’s sales and profit. By May, 2010, it had already overtaken Microsoft Corp. as the technology company with the highest value based on market value. It has also taken a tremendous portion of the global mobile phone market, and is the top tablet computer seller worldwide.
Chief executive officer of Millward Brown, Eileen Campbell said in the report that “It’s clear that every single Apple employee, from Steve Jobs and Tim Cook to the summer interns, see protecting and nurturing that brand as a top priority,” and that “Tablet computing also drove value growth not just for Apple, but also for the providers who support yet another networked device”.
